The I’ll Fly Away Foundation has launched a series of songwriting showcases which are multi-day events at various rural schools giving students the chance to write music, express themselves through song and create opportunities for creative learning. The centerpiece of the program is the fundamentals of songwriting including rhyme and phrasing led by a professional songwriter who teaches the students. Afterwards the class works as a team to write songs using the school’s current subject curriculum or social problems as advised by the educators. Songwriting has proven to enable students to have a better understanding of challenges in the classroom and their outside environments.
The I’ll Fly Away Foundation will be represented in the Century C foyer area. Betsy Brumley, founder and Chairwoman of the foundation and Kevin Bernier of Brumley Music Company will be on-site to celebrate the annual Folk Alliance and share information on the upcoming programs being offered by the organization.
